Abstract: The supersonic flow of viscous gas with admixture of solid dispersed particles over a cylinder is investigated numerically. The motion of the dispersed phase is described by the kinetic equation which takes into account inelastic collisions between particles. The flow of the carrier gas is described by the complete Navier–Stokes equations. The numerical method represents the combination of the finite volume scheme for the Navier–Stokes equations and the direct simulation Monte Carlo method for the particle phase. The computational results show that the collisions between particles influence significantly on the flow fields of both phases and, particularly, the structure of the thermal boundary layer and the heat flux from the carrier gas to the streamlined surface.
