Abstract:
A new mathematical model is proposed for two-phase fluid flows in oil reservoirs, which takes clay swelling into account. In this approach, the oil reservoir is considered as a system of two overlapping continuous media: one associated with fluid movement through porous media and the other with the residual oil and connecte water. The porosity and permeability are assumed to be variable in the displacement process. A correlation between the porosity, permeability and the clay swelling capacity is obtained in this study.
