Abstract:
Three cyclocarbonates, namely 1,3-dioxan-2-ones bearing 5-positioned ethyl, butyl and benzyl substituents, were synthesized by the cyclization of ethyl chloroformate with the corresponding propane-1,3-diols. Homopolymers of these cyclocarbonates as well as their copolymers with L-lactide were obtained by ring-opening polymerization using ZnEt2 as the initiator. The prepared homo- and copolymers were found suitable for the production of composite polylactide fibers with tunable hydrophobicity.
