Synthesis of 3-amino triterpenes involving the NaBH3CN/MoCl5 reduction of the oxime precursors

Abstract: A new efficient method for the preparation of 3-amino derivatives of pentacyclic lupane and germanicane triterpenoids, valuable precursors for the rational design of physiologically active agents, is presented. The key step involves the reduction of triterpenoid 3-oximes with sodium cyanoborohydride in the presence of molybdenum(v) chloride.
