Abstract: The electric field gradient asymmetry parameters for ³⁵Cl nuclei in compounds of the series Cl₂C=CHOR, Cl₂CHOCOR etc. do not corroborate a widespread representation of a p,π-interaction between the unshared electron pair of a Cl atom and the π-electron double bond system in these molecules.
