Generation of Nitro Formonitrile Oxide as an Intermediate for the Preparation of Dinitrofuroxan

Abstract: Two methods for the generation of nitro formonitrile oxide (NFNO) have been proposed: dehydration of dinitromethane and nitration of 1-nitro-2-methylprop-1-ene; NFNO has been identified in the form of its cyclodimerization product, dinitrofuroxan (DNFO).
