Abstract: The first X-ray crystallographic data on an ionic host–guest self-assembling system with water-soluble tetraprotonated macrocyclic 2,4,14,20-tetramethyl-5,11,17,23-(N,N-dimethylamino)methylenecalix[4]resorcinarene as a host and zinc tetrachloride as a guest are presented.
