Abstract: The first, highly efficient esterification of 2,2,2-trinitroethanol with alkanoyl, cycloalkanoyl, aroyl and hetaroyl chloride promoted by simple ionic liquids is described; trinitroethyl esters were characterised by X-ray crystallography.
