Abstract: The Kabachnik–Fields reaction of 4-piperidone hydrochloride monohydrate, an aromatic aldehyde and triethyl phosphite in the presence of triethylamine and magnesium perchlorate affords diethyl (aryl)(4-oxopiperidin-1-yl)methylphosphonates in moderate yields.
