Measurements of the refractive index of polymethylmethacrylate behind the front of a shock wave excited by a high-current electron beam

Abstract: The variation of the refractive index in polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) behind the front of a shock wave excited by a high-current electron beam is investigated. The values of refractive index in a pressure range of 2 and 4 GPa are determined from the deviation of the diagnostic laser beam. The results are compared with the available data for shock compression of PMMA.
