Acceleration of heavy ions in the quasi-neutral regime

Abstract: Acceleration of heavy ions in the collisionless regime with complete compensation of beam charges by plasma electrons is considered using the kinetic description of the ion beam. The possibility of accelerating the ions to a velocity exceeding the ion sound velocity is demonstrated.
