Abstract:
It is shown that the field emission current from nanoparticles does not obey the Fowler–Nordheim relation due to nonlinear dependence of the potential in the region between the points of turn. The transmittance of the potential barrier of a needle cathode on a flat metal base as a function of the medium interelectrode field is calculated. The calculated field emission current is considerably lower than the experimentally observed current. The reasons of this discrepancy are discussed.
