Abstract: The design and results of investigation of a two-electrode spark-gap switch aimed at connecting a capacitive energy storage are presented. Experiments are carried out at the following parameters: the operating voltage 300 kV; the switching energy, 450 J; the spark-gap switch current, 20 kA; and the pulse repetition rate, 10 Hz. Owing to specific self-breakdown conditions under which a spark current is preceded by a prebreakdown corona, the voltage stability of the switch within 10% is reached.
