Mechanism of self-focusing of laser pulses on dynamic lenses in transparent media

Abstract: We propose the physical and mathematical models for the mechanism explaining the reduction in experimental breakdown thresholds of optical materials by self-focusing of radiation on dynamic irregularities of the refractive index (dynamic lenses) as compared to avalanche ionization and multiphoton absorption predicted by theories.
