Structure of magnetic inhomogeneities in films with topological features

Abstract: Magnetic films with easy plane uniaxial anisotropy are studied. It is shown that in these films structural defects such as artificially created holes or nonmagnetic inclusions can give rise to vortex-like inhomogeneities with a topological charge. Analysis of their stability reveals parameters (the magnitude and direction of electric currents, the number of holes, etc.) at which they form stable configurations suitable for information encoding.
