Electron in the field of counterpropagating electromagnetic pulses

Abstract: An exact solution is obtained for the problem of the action of counterpropagating plane-wave electromagnetic pulses on a classical charged particle and on a particle with spin for the cases of symmetric and antisymmetric profiles of the pulse field strength. It is shown that the efficiency of the action is determined mainly by the electric area of the pulses, which emphasizes the relevance of the development of quasi-unipolar radiation sources. An expression for the power of the magnetic-dipole radiation emitted during spin rotation is given.
