Abstract: The problem of terahertz radiation generation in a quadratic nonlinear medium by a nanosecond phase-modulated optical pulse possessing the properties of supercontinuum has been investigated. The possibility of generating both broadband and quasi-monochromatic terahertz signals has been demonstrated. The conditions have been revealed under which the generation efficiency of a phase-modulated nanosecond optical pulse is greater than that of a spectrally confined femtosecond signal.
