Creation of digital maps of avalanche danger (Kabardino-Balkar republic)

Abstract: The principles of construction of avalanche digital maps based on the results of decoding of multitemporal photographic materials on selected geosystems (upper reaches of the Baksan river) of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic are presented. For each landscape a special (avalanche) strata based on interpretation of photographs is created. The resulting schematic maps allow a numerical assessment of the natural hazard. Recommendations are presented to reduce the impact of avalanches on the studied area to the optimum.
