Abstract: The authors investigate the influence of various factors on carbon nanotubes (CNT) growth. The article shows that the rate of array growth on the catalyst FeNiCo20/Al, which is less than 10 microns thick, slows down. Concentration of ferrocene in the gas mixture significantly impacts the growth of CNTs. Reduction of ferrocene concentration increases free melting energy and leads to the growth of nanotubes with smaller diameter and to a fewer amount of walls - 2 or 3. Increasing the ferrocene concentration over 1 $\%$ leads to a decrease in the quality of nanotubes growth. The authors analyze the technological possibilities of free-standing nanotubes formation.

Keywords: carbon nanotubes, thermodynamics of growth, clusters, catalyst.
