Abstract: The world of scientific publications grows more and more web-centric. Online presentation of an article gradually becomes the main and most significant feature for both the author and the reader. The first stage of life cycle of a publication starts with it – having just put the final full stop, the author rushes to place the study on a public online site where interested colleagues can read it. Then a lot of important events may occur about the online material. Internet enables a lively discussion. The online text gets amended, improved and evolved on a continual basis. A paper version of it may be published as a separate issue or as a magazine article. The publication may be quoted in the online encyclopedia, Wikipedia. The most essential features of the life cycle of a contemporary scientific publication life cycle are reviewed here.

Keywords: scientific article, alive publication, open review, online encyclopedia.
