Sublimated photoconductive films of CdS type: history and modernity

A. G. Rokakh

Saratov State University

Abstract: Brief history is given of the physical properties study at Saratov University and in the USSR of sublimated photoconducting films of CdS type that plays a prominent role in photoelectric researches, for which the cadmium sulfide served as a model substance. An addition of lead sulfide to cadmium sulfide has increased the speed of photoresponse and the resistance to degradation. Upon the sublimated films of CdS type it was discovered and studied the surface photocapasitive effect, photoinductive effect, secondary-ion photo effect and given a theoretical model of anomalous electric field screening (increase the depth of an electric field penetration on the doping growth of semiconductor).

Keywords: photoconductive films, cadmium sulphide, cadmium-lead sulphide, limited solid solution, photocapasitive effect, secondary-ion photo effect, abnormal screening, wide-gap and narrow-gap phases, resistance to degradation, plasma resonance.
