Abstract: The flow of air and the spread of pollutants in mountain gorges are studied with the help of the mathematical model in a two-dimensional formulation with regard to daily changes in surface temperature caused by solar radiation. The gorge of idealized form and the gorge located in North Ossetia in the area of the tailing dump near the village of Unal in the valley of the Ardon River are considered. The comparison of the dynamics of currents and the spread of pollutants is made. It is shown that taking into account daily temperature changes affects the patterns of pollutants distribution in these gorges. Also, differences are observed between day and night modes of ventilation of mountain gorges.

Keywords: mountain aerodynamics, wind speed in the gorge, whirlwinds in the mountain gorge, wind power in the mountain gorges.
