Abstract:
The paper proposes a modification of the hybrid RANS-LES approach, IDDES (Improved Delayed Detached Eddy Simulation), enhanced by the incorporation of the gray-area mitigation (GAM) techniques. It considers using alternative LES models and/or adaptive dynamic subgrid scales. Two options for integrating subgrid scales within IDDES are considered. The enhanced version of IDDES has been implemented in the NOISEtte research code and tested on several problems. The following turbulent flows are investigated: developed planar channel flow, flow in a channel with periodic hills, flow in the channel with a backward-facing step, and flow near a wall-mounted hump. The results are in good agreement with the reference data.
