Abstract: This work is an etude on the topic of modeling the economic aspects of the publication activity of scientists in situations when stimulating surcharges are paid for scientific publications. On the simplest models it is shown that if there is a fixed amount of money distributed among scientists in proportion to the number of published papers, then a significant part of the surcharges received by scientists is spent on covering the costs of publications. At the same time, if the cost of publication for some scientists is less than for others, then the second will spend on publications more than they receive surcharges.

Keywords: material stimulation, ratings of scientific publications, models.
