Intercalation of C$_{60}$ fullerene crystals with alkali and alkaline-earth metals through self-propagating high-temperature synthesis

Abstract: A method for rapidly intercalating C$_{60}$ fullerene crystals has been implemented using self-propagating high-temperature synthesis. The method has been used to intercalate C$_{60}$ fullerene crystals with alkali (K, Rb) and alkaline-earth (Ca, Ba) metals. The superconducting transition temperatures of the prepared compounds have been measured. The C$_{60}$ fullerene crystals intercalated with calcium have been investigated using X-ray diffraction.
