Abstract:
A model of thermodynamic properties of fullerite has been proposed. Carbon atoms of fullerene molecules are assumed to experience thermal vibrations described by the Debye model. The fullerene molecules themselves are considered as isotropic oscillators involved in the vibrational-rotational motion. Formulas for the free energy and isochoric specific heat of fullerite have been derived and the limiting cases corresponding to low and high temperatures have been considered. The model shows fair agreement with the known data on the isochoric specific heat.
