Abstract:
Rubidium monoaluminate RbAlO$_2$ has been studied by powder neutron diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry. A structural phase transition has been found at 1050$^\circ$C. It is shown that the low-temperature modification RbAlO$_2$ has the orthorhombic structure (Pnma, $a$ = 0.5570(2) nm, $b$ = 1.1189(4) nm, $c$ = 1.5818(6) nm) close to the crystal structures of low-temperature modifications RbGaO$_2$ and RbFeO$_2$, not a face-centered cubic structure, as assumed previously.
