Maximum magnetic recording density and switching field distribution

Abstract: An analytical calculation of the parameters of magnetic recording on a square lattice of magnetic granules of the patterned medium has been carried out. The maximum density of the longitudinal and perpendicular recording, which is limited by the thermal instability of the magnetic state and by the magnetic dipole interaction of magnetic granules (bits), has been calculated. The switching field distribution function with the parameters determined by the magnetic dipole interaction of granules and their geometry has been determined for perpendicular recording on rod-shaped granules.
