Abstract:
The gamma-luminescence (GL) of BaF$_2$:Ce$^{3+}$ single crystals and related nanoceramics has been comparatively investigated. Under gamma irradiation, both crystal and ceramic samples exhibit an intense GL doublet band in the spectral range of 300–350 nm, with maxima at 308 and 322 nm, which are characteristic of $f$-$d$ transitions of Ce$^{3+}$ ions. As a result of $\gamma$-ray irradiation, an efficient cerium-based phosphor was obtained using optical fluoride ceramics.
