Abstract: The optical properties of the Nb–FeNi–Nb–FeNi–Nb five-layer structure with different thicknesses of FeNi and Nb layers grown in the geometry of the effect were studied Stern–Gerlach. A nonlinear dependence of the dielectric constant on the thickness of Nb was found, which can be related to the behavior of the exchange interaction between the FeNi layers. The optical non-reciprocity effect was also found in these structures, the magnitude of which strongly depended on both the thickness of the magnetic FeNi layers and the distance between the FeNi layers. It is found that in the studied Nb–FeNi systems, two orientations of the unidirectional anisotropy axis can exist: one for the FeNi layers and the other for the Nb layers. The most promising parameters of periodic Nb–FeNi structures for optical properties studies have been determined.

Keywords: thin film, island film, Stern–Gerlach effect, dielectric constant, non-reciprocity, anisotropy.
