Parity effect – symmetry of n-alkanes molecules

Abstract: The features of phase transitions in the homologous series of normal alkanes of different parities have been studied. The real values of thermodynamic parameters were obtained as a result of eliminating the methodological errors of differential scanning calorimetry. The presence of a parity effect in the homologous series of n-alkanes was revealed both in the behavior of the thermodynamic parameters of phase transitions and in the process of structural rearrangement of crystallographic packing during the solid-solid phase transition, caused by different symmetries of n-alkane molecules.
