On the influence of strain rate on the nature of fracture in heterogeneous materials

Abstract: The influence of mechanical loading rate on the nature of destruction of heterogeneous materials was studied using the discrete element method. With increasing impact speed, brittle-ductile and ductile-brittle transitions were discovered. Possible mechanisms of the influence of loading speed on the strength and nature of destruction of materials are discussed.
