Abstract: A model of heterogeneous material fracture based on the discrete element method is constructed, which helps to study in detail the evolution of defects and acoustic emission accompanying their formation. It is shown that the analysis of the type of acoustic event amplitude distribution function allows us to determine the moment of time when the defect system transitions to the state of self-organized criticality.

Keywords: computer modeling, discrete element method, defect evolution, acoustic emission event distributions.
