Abstract:
We have experimentally studied containment of condensed carbon formed as a result of explosion in a confined volume of charges of 50/50 trotyl/hexogen as a function of the external cooling conditions for the detonation products. We have obtained data for explosions in a nitrogen atmosphere and in an ice shell. We propose a simple method for comparing data on the yield of condensed carbon for different methods for confinement of the detonation products.
