Abstract: An approximate method for modeling the self-ignition delay for internal combustion engines is proposed. The method allows the calculation of the time of chemical reaction for self-ignition at a constant volume (or constant pressure), which is equivalent to the real time of engine operation with a moving piston. The self-ignition delay calculated using a detailed kinetic mechanism is compared with corresponding experimental data.
