Characteristics of the impulsive collapse of water-filled cylindrical steel shells

Abstract: The impulsive collapse of cylindrical steel shells filled with air or water is investigated experimentally. It is established that this process has distinctie characteristics associated with the existence of water compression waves, which inhibit collapse of the walls to the point of complete closure of the interior duct of the shell.
