Abstract: In this paper the possibility of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) modification by metal/carbon nanocomposite is accomplished. The results of quantum-chemical modeling are described, the results of the researches of the swelling processes of samples (control PVA sample and modified by metal/carbon nanocomposite) are reported, the results of researches by photocolorimetry methods, infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy are described. The conclusions about the possible applications of nanostructured PVA are accomplished.

Keywords: copper/carbon nanocomposite, quantum-chemical modeling, polyvinyl alcohol, swelling process, photocolorimetry, atomic force microscopy, infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.
