Image segmentation along discontinuous boundaries

Abstract: The paper is concerned with decomposition of an image into consistent homogeneous areas in the case where the boundaries of these areas are discontinuous. The image is represented as a graph for which the parameter of “depth” is introduced and the relative closure is defined. Formal analysis of the graph structure leads to a segmenting algorithm, which employes parallelsequential procedures of the “wave” type.
