Optimally structured controllers for lumped and distributed systems

Abstract: The concept of optimally structured linear controller is introduced. Necessary and sufficient conditions are obtained for the structure to be optimal and this feature is shown to be equivalent to stability of a closed-loop system with an infinitely increasing gain.
