Abstract: There exist independently based semigroup varieties $\mathfrak X$ and $\mathfrak Y$, $\mathfrak X\subset \mathfrak Y$, such that $\mathfrak X$ has no cover in the interval $[\mathfrak X; \mathfrak Y]$.
